Regional Union Reps Conference

The QTU has conducted its first Regional Union Reps Conference in more than a decade.
On Friday 11 August, more than 80 delegates came to the Mercure Hotel in Townsville from as far as Thursday Island and Weipa in the north, Mt Isa in the west and Moura in the south. A large contingent of delegates also came up from Mackay and from around the Townsville area.

This conference, which followed on from the annual QTU Reps Conference held in March each year in Brisbane, was the first Union event that about a third of delegates had ever attended. It provided these delegates with an opportunity to engage with the Senior Officers of the Union and build networks with many experienced Union Reps from the northern half of the state.

All delegates were provided with an update on the new award and certified agreement, the role and function of the local consultative committee (LCC), and how to grow the QTU in their workplaces by personally inviting every potential member to join the Union.

The conference aimed to educate and connect activists, and the successful attendance should see the concept of a Regional Union Reps Conference become a regular feature of the QTU calendar in the north of the state.
