Union members have been gathering in electorates across the state for the launch of the Queensland Council of Unions’ state election campaign.

QTU members have joined with members from a range of unions to discuss the campaign. Commitments were sought from members to get involved in campaign activities in the lead up to the forthcoming vote.

As I write, members have met in the greater Brisbane electorates of Everton, Mansfield, Mount Ommaney and Springwood, while in regional Queensland members have met in Keppel outside Rockhampton, Mundingburra in Townsville, Maryborough, Whitsunday, Proserpine and Mackay.

At each local launch, union members heard from local activists and movement leaders about their experiences under the past two governments and how we can make sure that Queensland’s next government continues to stand up for jobs, restoring our frontline services such as health and education, and maintaining public assets in public hands. Ensuring workers and their unions are treated appropriately through fair industrial relations laws will also form a key part of the campaign.

The QCU state election campaign complements the direct campaigning QTU members will continue to engage in by seeking commitments from the major parties that they will deliver the QTU election asks (as published in the last Journal).
