What are the staff professional development days for 2018?
- 18, 19 January
- 11, 12, 13, 16 April (flexible)
- 22 October (flexible).
Queensland state school students will get an extra day of holiday next year (16 April 2018), following the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. This decision was announced by Education and Commonwealth Games Minister Kate Jones to allow school buses, which are to be used during the games, to return to regional areas.
For teachers and principals, this means that, in 2018 only, the usual three flexible teacher professional development days in the autumn break will become four days. The usual procedures apply for performance of duties on flexible teacher professional development days, and consultation will be required at each workplace to determine how this additional day will be completed.
Schools can decide when they undertake the required hours for professional development for the flexible days, as long as they are on the flexible days, in the school holidays or out of school hours, e.g. twilight sessions.
Schools should by now have managed to review/negotiate their arrangements for the 2018 flexible SFDs through consultation via the LCC. Arrangements should be finalised by the end of the year and communicated to regional offices.
Dates and times should be defined and published for teachers, including those coming in on transfer, relocation or as temporary engagements.
The 2018 school calendar can be accessed at http://education.qld.gov.au/public_media/calendar/pdf/2018-school-calendar.pdf
